Molybdenum disulfide MoS2

The best lubricating properties for metal pairings are achieved with MoS2 (molybdenum disulfide). The layer lattice structure and the chemically active properties on the metal surface result in the lowest friction values, high pressure absorption capacity and excellent wear protection. Even thin films produce an extremely load-bearing layer in which the MoS2 lamellae slide towards each other like a deck of playing cards.

Can be found in, for example, aircraft turbines and even in hard-to-reach components which have to last for a long time without relubrication without being damaged, e.g. closed joints under high loads.
